Spanish and Gross Motor

I am not the type of mom that puts her kids on a pedestal and claims for them to be far more advanced than others their age. Don't get me wrong, I think our kids are pretty amazing kids, but it is hard for me to describe them using the word "genius" when they get a kick out of calling each other "pootie head" and then laugh hysterically. Considering that it was 6th grade before I even considered saying a spanish word, I think it is pretty amazing that my 3 yr olds can count to 10 in spanish and can tell us most of the colors in Spanish. "Mr. D" comes on Wednesdays to their school and he's amazing and he's obviously teaching the kids something.
Today on the way home from work/school I was asking the routine questions about what they did at school. I asked if Mr. D had come, knowing he had been there yesterday, and Austin said, "No, mom, we didn't go to the library or see Mr. D today. We went to gross motor." Gross motor???? I'm pretty sure we called it PE. Love it!!!!

Hayride!

We had a very busy weekend as you can tell from the previous posts, but by far the highlight of the weekend was our hayride. When we first moved back to Brenham and had land to live on, Wes said that eventually he'd like to have an annual hayride. Well, we're about settled in as we're going to get and we finally had enough rain to have hay cut so Mission Hayride was set in place. It was very last minute and we invited a few friends and family to join us. We had 2 tractors and trailers loaded down with kids, adults, and coolers and we set out down the country road for about an hour ride. It was such simple, easy FUN! The kids got to see horses, cows, ponies, geese and even a few quick deer running through the woods. Once we got back to the house, we let the kids run loose and we all enjoyed hotdogs and chili.
No doubt this will be an annual event. We had such a good day and we are SOOOO blessed to have so many close friends and family!

Kidfish

This past Saturday was Kidfish where the outdoor pool at the aquatic center is filled with catfish. It's grown to be a big event for the community and gives the "city folk" a chance to bait a hook. Since the kids "know" people who work there, they were able to help with putting the fish in the pool on Friday. We attempted to fish on Saturday, but had no luck catching anything.... maybe next year.

Capturing priceless expressions....

So yesterday I spent half the day with my stomach in knots because I thought someone had taken my camera after I left it at a restaurant. Yes, I know, irresponsible on my part, but I'm not going to dwell on that. Hallelujah the camera had been locked up in a safe place and I was reunited with it by mid-afternoon. I love having my camera and though I do not claim to have any type of photography "skills", I do love catching our kid's priceless expressions and moments like Caleb acting crazy with pj bottoms on his head!

Happy Birthday, Mimi!!!

Happy Birthday (one day belated), Mimi!!!! We are so lucky to have you in our lives!!! Can't wait until the kids get old enough to get in the kitchen with you to make cookies! We know that's something everyone will enjoy and one mess I will leave to your kitchen and not mine!

Hook 'Em

So it wasn't pretty, but the horns pulled off a victory at the Red River Shoot Out. Wish we could have been there.... what a great day for football, but we did our best cheerin' them on in Btown.

Austin has been a bit under the weather and obviously did not want his pic taken here.

A few new words...

I have heard many times that the second child (or in our case, the third) takes a little longer to start talking, mainly because the older sibling(s) talks for them. Well, Caleb is definitely not in any hurry to carry on a conversation, but the boy understand every word we say very clearly. He did learn to say "no" very early on and says it more than we'd like to hear. Just this week he started saying his brother and sister's names: "Aus De" and "Yay Yay"

Speaking of new, thought I'd give the blog a bit of a "fall" look. Hope ya like!

BUSY Saturday.....

With 3 toddlers, it can be very tempting to turn down invites and events and just stay home to avoid the mad rush involved in packing around our crew, but this weekend we decided to bite the bullet and take it all in. So Saturday morning involved three 4-year old birthday parties. The first was at 10:00am at Hohlt Park, then Avery and I went to a girl's only dress up tea party at 10:30am while the boys headed to the 11:00am party at Fireman's Park and then we met back up a little after lunch to head to Austin to tailgate for the UT/Colorado game.

We didn't last too long at the tailgate and it was much colder than we had dressed for it to be. We were expecting clear skies in the low 70's. We got cool and cloudy in the upper 50's. After about an hour and a half the kids were all chanting "We want to go to Uncle Jason's!" So, we bagged everything up and made the mile trek back to the car, against game traffic that was walking into the stadium. That could have been a disaster, but the kids were troopers and we made it back.

We were all glad to be at Uncle Jason's that evening. We watched the game on the couch with a warm homecooked meal and extra kid watchers! This pic is the kids eating waffles at Uncle Jason's. He had bought blueberries to put in the waffles but the kids had anotoher idea. They made gourmet Banana Cheerio Waffles - they were.... different.
I am disappointed in my lack of decent pics from the weekend, but we were kind of.... busy.

Rainy days

Got to love rainy weekends like these, especially after the HOT dry summer we've had. We didn't have any outdoor activities scheduled for the weekend so we were all in favor of every drop we could get. We have managed to stay sane, for the most part, with having to stay inside the majority of the weekend. We had a skating birthday party yesterday and then Toppe and Grandpa came over with a few pounds of fresh shrimp for supper. Popo and Mimi are bringing over steaks tonight... having visitors helps. Be sure to read the post below... I bet it makes you smile!

One day my sons may kill me for posting this!

These pictures speak for themselves. We had to find ways to stay sane inside on a rainy weekend... why not a little dress up? Wes wasn't real fond of seeing his sons in pink from head to toe, but I must say we all did enjoy a good laugh.
