Weekend highlights....

-  Austin was picked to throw out the first pitch at the Blinn Baseball game for Little League day.  He cried when Wes first asked him if he wanted to do it.  I think he thought he was going to have to actually throw in a game.  Once he realized what was going on, he headed out on the field like a champ.
-  We now have a front walkway to our house.  After a large load of rock (I have to note, that I hate spending money on things like rock!?!) and a few hours of Wes on the tractor, we have an official walkway to our front door.  What can I say, we are casual people and prefer backdoor visitors, but at least now there is the option.
-  Kelcie texted and asked if she could take the kids to the movies.  Of course she didn't have to ask twice.  The kids went with her to see "Chimpanzee" and I got a few cleaning things done around the house and then enjoyed a little outdoor vitamin D.
-  We visited my college alma mater, Houston Baptist University, for the first time since the kids were born.  They were having alumni day for the softball team and having a special ceremony after the game for a former player.  I barely knew the player as she played several years before I did, but I knew of the unthinkable story that she and her family went through roughly two years ago.  In her honor, they retired her jersey #6, the first time a number has been retired in HBU sports history.  I was proud to be a part of the day and it was great to see some of the girls that I spent countless hours with on and off the field.
-  After visiting HBU we did a little family shopping and dined at "Rainforest Cafe".  It was a fun experience for the kids but I was so disappointed in the food.  We obviously paid for the atmosphere.
-  I was not disappointed in our fresh potatoes from the garden... Sunday night we had our first garden sample.  Delish!  Can't wait for the rest of the veggies to be ready.

Blue Bell Fun Run 2012 - Family style

About to head down to the Blue Bell Fun.  They might be smiling, but it was pretty tough to get them going so early on a Saturday morning, especially after the long week we had.
After the Kids Mile with their medals!
After we were all done... 3 kids miles + 1 dad 5K +  1 mom 10K = a great way to start the morning!
This is what it was all about... all the ice cream you could eat after you crossed the finish line.

We made the Blue Bell Fun Run a family event once again.  We were up early on Saturday morning and met the masses of 4,500 runners/walkers at Brenham High School.  Once the horn went off for the kids mile, A,A,&C were off, and to our excitement they jetted off without insisting Wes or I come with them.  Avery took out on her own and wound up finishing 4th in her age group!  Austin stuck with a group of boys from his class and they finished shortly after.  Caleb had a little bit of a spill about the halfway mark, but we were right there to see him and encourage him to get back up.  Little guy wiped his tears and finished the race all smiles.  So proud of my kiddos!
Toppe watched the kids while Wes and I did our runs.  Not sure either of us was real excited about running that morning, but we pushed through and enjoyed the ice cream prize.  We're ready for next year...

Book worm

This is the face of a girl who LOVES to read.  The Easter Bunny brought her a 'Junie B Jones' book and it was like a little kid getting a new bike for Christmas.  She grabbed that book and wouldn't put it down until it was finished.  I found out from Avery's teacher that this book series is on a 2nd - 3rd grade reading level and Avery was breezing through it.  She read 3 chapters by lunch time Easter morning and that was with us making her leave it in the car for church.  Easter evening she fell asleep reading it and when I found her Monday morning, she had turned on her bedside table and picked up right where she left off the night before.
She is one smart little cookie and I am excited to see what all her mind absorbs in all the stories she reads.

If you need to find us....

we'll be at the ball field.  T-ball season is in full swing and our week nights are being spent at the baseball diamond.  The Huskers play on Mon & Wed nights and the Yellow Jackets play Tues & Thurs nights... yes, four straight nights and some nights we "travel" to Burton.
 Game #1
 Ready position.
 Yellow Jackets Game #1
Big slugger!

So I am learning that in tball the big deal is getting an out.  To have one kid field it, throw it to first, and have the first baseman catch it is a huge accomplishment.  Austin made a big catch at first in their second game and Avery made a great throw for an out in her first game.  The crowd went wild :)  Looking forward to see the kids improve as they get a better grasp on how things are supposed to happen.
